Full report here OCTOBER 2009 CONSTRUCTION AT $910.8 BILLION ANNUAL RATE The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that construction spending during October 2009 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $910.8 billion, nearly the same as (±1.6%)* the revised September estimate of $910.4 billion. The October figure is 14.4 percent (±1.6%) below the October 2008 estimate of $1,064.1 billion. During the first 10 months of this year, construction spending amounted to $794.0 billion, 12.6 percent (±1.1%) below the $908.9 billion for the same period in 2008. PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $589.0 billion, 0.3 percent (±1.1%)* above the revised September estimate of $587.2 illion. Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $250.3 billion in October, 4.4 percent (±1.3%) above the revised September estimate of $239.7 billion. Nonresidential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $338.6 billion in October, 2.5 percent (±1.1%) below the revised September estimate of $347.5 billion. PUBLIC CONSTRUCTION In October, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was $321.8 billion, 0.4 percent (±2.4%)* below the revised September estimate of $323.2 billion. Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $85.7 billion, 1.1 percent (±2.9%)* above the revised September estimate of $84.7 billion. Highway construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $87.2 billion, 0.3 percent (±6.6%)* below the revised September estimate of $87.4 billion.

Full report here SEPTEMBER 2009 CONSTRUCTION AT $940.3 BILLION ANNUAL RATE The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that construction spending during September 2009 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $940.3 billion, 0.8 percent (±1.8%)* above the revised August estimate of $933.0 billion. The September figure is 13.0 percent (±1.9%) below the September 2008 estimate of $1,081.2 billion. During the first 9 months of this year, construction spending amounted to $715.2 billion, 12.1 percent (±1.3%) below the $813.3 billion for the same period in 2008. PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $613.9 billion, 0.5 percent (±1.1%)* above the revised August estimate of $610.9 billion. Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $256.0 billion in September, 3.9 percent (±1.3%) above the revised August estimate of $246.4 billion. Nonresidential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $357.9 billion in September, 1.8 percent (±1.1%) below the revised August stimate of $364.5 billion. PUBLIC CONSTRUCTION In September, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was $326.4 billion, 1.3 percent (±2.9%)* above the revised August estimate of $322.1 billion. Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $88.7 billion, 0.1 percent (±3.4%)* below the revised August estimate of $88.8 billion. Highway construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $85.5 billion, 1.0 percent (±7.8%)* above the revised August estimate of $84.6 billion. Full report here AUGUST 2009 CONSTRUCTION AT $941.9 BILLION ANNUAL RATE The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that construction spending during August 2009 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $941.9 billion, 0.8 percent (±1.8%)* above the revised July estimate of $934.6 billion. The August figure is 11.6 percent (±1.8%) below the August 2008 estimate of $1,066.1 billion. During the first 8 months of this year, construction spending amounted to $629.5 billion, 11.9 percent (±1.3%) below the $714.3 billion for the same period in 2008. PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $622.1 billion, 1.8 percent (±1.1%) above the revised July estimate of $611.1 billion. Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $249.5 billion in August, 4.7 percent (±1.3%) above the revised July estimate of $238.3 billion. Nonresidential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $372.6 billion in August, 0.1 percent (±1.1%)* below the revised July estimate of $372.8 billion. PUBLIC CONSTRUCTION In August, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was $319.8 billion, 1.1 percent (±2.7%)* below the revised July estimate of $323.5 billion. Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $89.2 billion, nearly the same as (±4.2%)* the revised July estimate of $89.3 billion. The July figure is 10.5 percent (±1.8%) below the July 2008 estimate of $1,070.2 billion. During the first 7 months of this year, construction spending amounted to $543.8 billion, 11.4 percent (±1.3%) below the $613.5 billion for the same period in 2008. PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $630.4 billion, 0.1 percent (±1.0%)* above the revised June estimate of $629.6 billion. Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $245.6 billion in July, 2.3 percent (±1.3%) above the revised June estimate of $240.1 billion. Nonresidential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $384.9 billion in July, 1.2 percent (±1.0%) below the revised June estimate of $389.5 billion. Construction Spending - March APRIL 2009 CONSTRUCTION AT $968.7 BILLION ANNUAL RATE The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that construction spending during April 2009 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $968.7 billion, 0.8 percent (±1.3%)* above the revised March estimate of $961.3 billion. The April figure is 10.7 percent (±1.8%) below the April 2008 estimate of $1,085.2 billion.
